Pair Excitations and Vertex Corrections in Fermi Fluids

چکیده
Based on an equations–of–motion approach for time–dependent pair correlations in strongly interacting Fermi liquids, we have developed a theory for describing the excitation spectrum of these systems. Compared to the known “correlated” random–phase approximation (CRPA), our approach has the following properties: i) The CRPA is reproduced when pair fluctuations are neglected. ii) The first two energy–weighted sumrules are fulfilled implying a correct static structure. iii) No ad–hoc assumptions for the effective mass are needed to reproduce the experimental dispersion of the roton in 3He. iv) The density response function displays a novel form, arising from vertex corrections in the proper polarisation. Our theory is presented here with special emphasis on this latter point. We have also extended the approach to the single particle self-energy and included pair fluctuations in the same way. The theory provides a diagrammatic superset of the familiar GW approximation. It aims at a consistent calculation of single particle excitations with an accuracy that has previously only been achieved for impurities in Bose liquids.

Quantum Boltzmann equation study for the Kondo breakdown quantum critical point.
We develop the quantum Boltzmann equation approach for the Kondo breakdown quantum critical point, involved with two bands for conduction electrons and localized fermions. Particularly, the role of vertex corrections in transport is addressed, crucial for non-Fermi liquid transport with temperature linear dependence. Only one band of spinons may be considered for scattering with gauge fluctuati...
متن کاملVertex Corrections for Positive-Definite Spectral Functions of Simple Metals.
We present a systematic study of vertex corrections in a homogeneous electron gas at metallic densities. The vertex diagrams are built using a recently proposed positive-definite diagrammatic expansion for the spectral function. The vertex function not only provides corrections to the well known plasmon and particle-hole scatterings, but also gives rise to new physical processes such as the gen...
متن کاملCollective mode description for a clean Fermi gas with a repulsion in arbitrary dimensions: interaction of spin excitations and its consequences
We discuss a recent bosonization method developed to study clean Fermi gases with a repulsion in any dimensions. The method enables one to consider both density and spin excitations. It is demonstrated that due to a non-abelian structure of the effective theory, the spin excitations interact with each other, which leads to new logarithmic in temperature corrections to physical quantities. Using...

متن کاملO ct 1 99 6 Vertex corrections in antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation theories
We calculate the first vertex correction δΛ k to the bare vertex Λ • in the nearly antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation Fermi liquid theory of the cuprate superconductor YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7. It is calculated for k on the Fermi surface, and Q = (± π a , ± π a). We find that the dimensionless ratio |δΛ k |/Λ • , which parametrizes the vertex correction, is not small. It is a maximum for k = k h , where ...
